My New Cone Poi!!!

by admin on Jul.30, 2010, under Equipment, My Poi, Poi

Oh my god!!! These are brilliant!!! I finally decided i should get some cone poi with swivals because im fed up of them getting twisted whenever i spin…..and boy am i glad i did!! They look like normal cone poi except they have finger loops at the end. This allows greater control and means they dont get twisted, finally, air wraps and orbitals and stuff are a reality!! They’re a bit more expensive than normal poi but trust me its worth that extra few quid. I got mine in bright orange and they look fantastic, the supplied tennis are actually the perfect weight for once and because of the material they’re made of they dont stretch and lose their shape. Basically, they’re wonderful and i can’t explain how much i recomend them. Seriously, every spinner needs a pair of these!! Get on Home of Poi now and order a pair, trust me, its worth it!!poi_cone-poi-h-orange

Back 2 Basics

by admin on Oct.30, 2009, under Learning Poi, Poi info

I thinks its time that we all went back to the beginning and learnt poi from scratch. People spend too much time concentrating on learning new tricks that they’ve seen they’re friends do. It’s the simple stuff that counts.

Over the next few days try to work on your general planes and transitions. Spin the poi in different positions to usual and make sure you can do all the basic moves…perfectly!! I’ve been reading around other blogs and forums on the web and nearly all of them have the common theme of ‘If you started poi again, what would you do differently?’

The answer is surprisingly simple; make poi more natural and not a bunch of tricks!! Although hyperloops look great, are they part of a routine? Focus on the workings of the poi and how they move around your body (turns are great for understanding this) Go back and learn all the really simple things and I can grantee, you’ll be amazed by how much you’ve forgotten.

Poi is like all sports. Do the basics right and the rest will follow.

Poi is addictive

by admin on Oct.29, 2009, under My Poi, Poi info

Has anyone else noticed just how addictive poi actually is? Just take a step back for a moment and think about how many people you’ve introduced to the wonders of poi. For most of us, the number is surprisingly high.

I decided to teach my younger brother some basic poi moves (3 beat weave, forward spinning, backward spinning etc). He knew that I did poi but never really understood what poi was. I handed over my trusty socks and within ten minutes he was hooked. I had to fight to get them back off him to show him the next move:) now, he’s constantly asking whether he can have a go and I think poi is going on his Christmas list!!

The same has happened to me many times before. We went to music festival with some friends for a few days and the attention I received was overwhelming. At that point I’d only just bought my own set of poi and was nervous about performing in front of other people. After a few minutes I got over my stage fright and I was lending out my poi for other people to have a go.

And this got me thinking, wouldn’t the world be so much better if people were addicted to poi. At night, streets would be lit up by the glow of LED’s instead of the ends of cigarettes!! It’s a long shot I know but hey, try introducing a few more people to the wonders of poi and let’s see where it goes:)

At last! Air wraps!

by admin on Oct.28, 2009, under Learning Poi, My Poi

Finally!! I’ve managed to crack air wraps!! I don’t know why but I’ve been finding them really hard to do. The poi were always getting tangled and never untangling. However, i found that if you  pull outwards slightly they undo better. Fountains next, doesn’t look too hard:)
