My New Cone Poi!!!

by admin on Jul.30, 2010, under Equipment, My Poi, Poi

Oh my god!!! These are brilliant!!! I finally decided i should get some cone poi with swivals because im fed up of them getting twisted whenever i spin…..and boy am i glad i did!! They look like normal cone poi except they have finger loops at the end. This allows greater control and means they dont get twisted, finally, air wraps and orbitals and stuff are a reality!! They’re a bit more expensive than normal poi but trust me its worth that extra few quid. I got mine in bright orange and they look fantastic, the supplied tennis are actually the perfect weight for once and because of the material they’re made of they dont stretch and lose their shape. Basically, they’re wonderful and i can’t explain how much i recomend them. Seriously, every spinner needs a pair of these!! Get on Home of Poi now and order a pair, trust me, its worth it!!poi_cone-poi-h-orange

Favoritism is fun!!

by admin on Jun.11, 2010, under Poi info

Everyone has their pair of lucky socks or underwear and poi should be no different. All poi are different and therefore are going to behave differently when you spin them. Some are heavy and spin slow, allowing greater control. Lighter ones, on the other hand, need to be spun faster and can create stunning special effects. Having one set of poi that you spin best with is no bad thing. People think that they need to be able to spin equally well with fire poi and sock poi but this is rubbish! The two wets of poi are so different that it would be near impossible to do as good with one as the other. Pick the type of poi that you think gives the greatest visual effect or you find easiest to spin, this way you will feel more confident when you spin in front of other people and you are probably going to perform with fewer mistakes:)

Listen to Music

by admin on Apr.25, 2010, under Learning Poi

Lots of people have trouble getting the timing of poi moves correct. Without good timing, poi will not look good and it can make the difference between looking average and looking good. I find that listening to music when you’re practising helps a lot. Poi is basically, just a form of dance and any dancer will tell you that its almost immpossible to dance without music. Why should poi be any different?

Some people will tell you that their is special poi music in a an attempt to get you to buy thier stuff. Its all bollocks. Listen to whatever you want. I personally find pop music and dance music the best because they have such a strong beat to spin to, however they can be a bit too fast at times. To be honest, it doesn’t really matter, just do what you think will suit you best. Oh, and remember to subscribe and tell all your poi friends about us!! People leaving nice comments is also greatly appreciated!!

by admin on Mar.26, 2010, under Equipment, Poi

Flowlights have released a new colour for their famous LED Glow Poi. Flowlights now come in 5 amazing colours including the new ‘fire’ (my personal favourite). They can be bought as poi or, alternatively, you can buy just the lights and use them as handles to create dazzling effects!! At the moment Home of Poi has them cheap so if your interested I would get in there quick!!

Weight?

by admin on Nov.22, 2009, under Equipment, Learning Poi, Poi, Poi info

Many people have different opinions on what weight the perfect set of Poi would and I think it depends on personal preference. Heavy can spin much slower and give greater control; there own momentum keeps them spinning but they can be difficult when doing more complicated moves. Light poi spin a lot faster give a greater range of options in terms of tricks that are available. However they require a lot more energy to keep them spinning.

One of the easiest ways to adjust the weight of your poi is to fill a balloon with rice and use that instead of tennis ball or glow product. If you find weight is not quite right or you just fancy a change, you can!! This method is easiest with sock/cone poi. I read somewhere that the optimum weight for beginners is 120g, I’m not sure whether I agree with this, I think that you should experiment yourself.
